Why Our Packaging Returns Service Matters for the Environment

Every year, millions of tonnes of packaging waste ends up in landfills across the globe. As a responsible organic meat producer, we believe that sustainability extends beyond how we raise our animals — it must also encompass how we package and deliver our products. Our packaging returns service is a core pillar of our environmental commitment, designed to give our insulated liners and gel packs a second, third, or even fourth life before they are eventually recycled. By participating in this programme, you are directly helping to reduce the carbon footprint associated with single-use packaging and keeping reusable materials out of the waste stream.

What Packaging Can Be Returned

We accept a specific range of packaging materials for return and reuse. The items eligible for our returns programme include our insulated thermal liners, which are made from durable, multi-layered materials designed to maintain temperature during transit. We also accept reusable gel ice packs, provided they are undamaged and have not leaked. These gel packs are engineered to be refrozen and reused multiple times, making them ideal candidates for a circular packaging system. Please note that we cannot accept food-contact packaging such as vacuum seal bags, meat trays, or butcher paper, as these items cannot be safely sanitised and reused for food transport.

What Happens to Returned Packaging

Once your returned packaging arrives back at our facility, it goes through a careful inspection and sorting process. Our team examines each gel pack for any signs of damage or leakage, and any packs that pass inspection are cleaned, sanitised, and refrozen for use in future deliveries. Insulated liners are inspected for tears or contamination, and those in good condition are thoroughly cleaned and repacked for reuse. Packaging that has reached the end of its usable life is sent to our recycling partners, ensuring that even worn-out materials are diverted from landfill and processed responsibly. This closed-loop system allows us to significantly reduce our annual packaging waste.

Tips for Storing Packaging Before Return

To make the returns process as smooth as possible, we recommend storing your gel packs and insulated liners in a clean, dry area between deliveries. Gel packs should be fully thawed and drained if necessary, then dried before storage to prevent mould growth. Insulated liners should be shaken out to remove any residual moisture and folded neatly to save space. By keeping your collected packaging in good condition, you ensure that it can be successfully reused rather than being rejected upon inspection. We suggest designating a specific storage box or shelf in your garage, utility room, or shed for this purpose.

Frequently Asked Questions About Packaging Returns

Is there a cost to return packaging?

No, our packaging returns service is completely free for all customers. Once you have collected a minimum of four orders worth of packaging, you can request a prepaid return label through the Worldwidedeliverytrace.com returns portal at no charge to you.

How many orders of packaging do I need before returning?

We require a minimum of four orders worth of undamaged packaging before you submit a return request. This threshold helps us keep the programme efficient and cost-effective, as processing smaller returns would negate the environmental benefits through additional transport emissions.

Can I return packaging from a single order?

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept returns from a single order at this time. The environmental cost of transporting a small parcel outweighs the benefit of reusing a small amount of packaging. We encourage you to collect packaging from multiple orders before initiating a return.

What if my gel packs are damaged or leaking?

Damaged or leaking gel packs cannot be reused and should not be included in your return. Please dispose of them according to your local waste guidelines. Only include gel packs that are fully intact and show no signs of leakage.

Our Broader Sustainability Commitment

The packaging returns service is just one part of our wider sustainability strategy. On our farms, we practice regenerative agriculture that focuses on soil health, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration. Our animals are raised on open pastures without the use of synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, or GMO feeds. We use solar energy to power our processing facilities and have implemented water conservation measures throughout our operations. By choosing organic meat from Organic Fresh Beef and participating in our packaging returns programme, you are supporting a food system that prioritises planetary health at every stage of the supply chain.
